Herb Byrd earned three degrees from UT Knoxville, including a doctorate in educational leadership, and has spent most of his professional career with UT Extension and the Institute of Agriculture. He began his career as a 4-H agent, and his responsibilities have included recruitment, personnel development and affirmative action throughout the years. Byrd has served on the staff of the UT Leadership Institute since 1999.

Peter Chyka is the executive associate dean for the UT Health Science Center’s College of Pharmacy campus in Knoxville. Chyka served as executive director of the Southern Poison Center for two decades, director of the UT Drug Information Center for a decade and has been recognized with the UT National Alumni Association Public Service Award and the UTHSC Chancellor’s Distinguished Educator Award.

Nancy Howell earned graduate degrees in higher education administration from UT Knoxville. As a research assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine, she is responsible for facilitating problem-based cases and teaching a service-learning elective. She also directs the college’s outcomes assessment activities and is involved in Department of Homeland Security grants related to food safety and disaster planning. Howell says she feels fortunate to have spent the majority of her life in a college environment where learning is a constant.

Jerald Ogg Jr. joined the UT Martin faculty in 1987 after serving as an active duty judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force and practicing law. At UT, Ogg has served as chair of the Department of Communications, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs. He served as Faculty Senate president and retired in 2009 as a colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
